The Assassin's Enemy Lover

Chapter 103

Marshal Yi was bending down to tie Meng Meng’s shoes while reprimanding her. “How many times have I taught you how to tie your shoelace but you never get it?” said the Marshal while Meng Meng stood there pouting her red lips.

She playfully patted her father’s shoulder while saying, “Daddy has to sing the rhyme for me to get it.”

Lin Ruoxi passed by and placed a bowl where Meng Meng should be sitting. She looked at her husband who was giving her an are you serious look. Since he was still in the dog house she ignored him and placed a bowl where he was meant to sit.

It was Yi Youxi who was placing down his portable game console who replied, “She likes to hear you sing it. That’s why she never learns to do it.”

“Sing it, daddy..... I promise I will learn it this time,” she said but everyone in that kitchen knew it was all lies. Two days later and he will be singing it again.

“I swear after this I am going to buy you shoes with buckles and no laces,” he said only to hear silent whimpers coming from Meng Meng. He raised his head and saw those watery big eyes and twitching lips. How could he say no to that face?

“Uh uh don’t cry. I will sing it. Give me your other foot... Bunny ears, bunny ears, playing by a tree....Criss, criss-crossed the tree, trying to catch me. Bunny ears, bunny ears, jumped into the hole, popped out the other side beautiful and bold.”

Yi Chen who had just come from upstairs heard his dad singing that silly shoelace rhyme and immediately turned back but his mother noticed him.

.....

“Not a chance Mr... come back and eat breakfast,” she said while dishing up his bowl.

Yi Chen had no choice but to walk in and take a seat. His father who was done tying Meng Meng’s shoelaces stood up and grasped his son’s arm. He nudged his head towards Lin Ruoxi and Yi Chen instantly understood.

For the past two days, he hadn’t had the chance to speak to his mother about the date thing so his father was reminding him to do so. The man was tired of sleeping next to a glacier from a subzero planet.

Yi Chen nodded his head and his father smiled like Christmas came early. “Dage, can you sing the rhyme for me too,” said Meng Meng trying to scam every adult male in the house to sing the silly song.

Yi Chen ruffled Yi Youxi’s hair and sat beside him while refusing, “Your shoelaces are already tied so there is no point in me singing it.”

Meng Meng pouted her lips but she didn’t say anything. She obediently picked up a porcelain spoon and started to eat her breakfast. Lin Ruoxi placed a bowl in front of Yi Chen before sitting down to join the family for breakfast. For a moment the only noise in the kitchen was that of cutlery clanking against bowls and the housekeeper robot cleaning up the countertops.

Lin Ruoxi stared at her son for a second before placing her spoon down and saying, “About that girl..... do you like her?” she asked directly and the sound of spoons being dropped into bowls and Yi Chen choking filled the room.

Yi Chen coughed a little and his mother passed him a glass of water for him to drink. After calming down he wiped his mouth with a napkin before saying, “I don’t like her and that..... that was a boy.”

“Who?” asked Yi Youxi wiggling into an adult conversation.

“You mean that jiejie was a gege? Wow, I couldn’t tell,” said Meng Meng while playfully shaking her head enjoying her tasty breakfast, “he was so nice.”

Lin Ruoxi’s face stiffened as she looked at her son in disbelief. How could that be? Yes, the girl’s body was masculine but he easily passed as a girl. Women come in all shapes and sizes especially in the federation so she didn’t doubt one bit.

“So why were you following him? Do you know him?” she asked her heart a little shaken. She had experienced a lot of things in her life thus her intuition was at a godly level. When it comes to feelings she had never been wrong. This was indeed a first.

“I know him. He is in my class. You must have misunderstood something,” he said with his tone so casual making it easy for his mother to believe his lies. She saw something that day but since the other person was a boy she wasn’t sure anymore.

For the rest of breakfast, Lin Ruoxi was absent-minded. She would respond to the conversations happening around her but in truth, she was half-listening. It was only when Yi Chen left the house did she regain her soul back.

She rushed after him and called out, “Chen Chen!!”

Yi Chen who was standing by his hoverbike turned his head to look at her and walked back to the door. “Mum I have an early class. Is there something?” he said in a polite tone as he put on his helmet.

“Ah, it’s about the get-together slash blind date thing. Mum doesn’t want to force you but it’s important. I don’t expect you to get married or anything..... I just want you to broaden your horizon. Just go take a look this weekend and who knows maybe, maybe you will meet someone special,” she said her expression that of a worried parent.

Yi Chen couldn’t disappoint her so he nodded his head and his mother sent over the invitation. He didn’t want to meet anyone special because he had already met someone special.

He might as well drag Zi Han along and ward off pursuers at the gathering. That way his mother would be happy and not bring this up again any time soon.

Zi Han who had no idea he was going to be dragged by the foot to a singles get-together was sitting in class shaking his leg restlessly. That’s because he had brought a ‘Let’s make up after a fight gift’ and placed it on Yi Chen’s desk along with the class president’s clean school jacket and medicine.
