Chapter 141: Dark Wind Technique

Chapter 141: Dark Wind Technique

The wolf demon was visibly buffed. Even in his great wolf form, Xiao Huo was evenly matched against the monster. However, Xiao Huo didn’t know any spells. Wrapped around the wolf demon was a gust of black wind. With just a random push, it could send forth a dark gale, forcing Xiao Huo backward. As if there was an invisible barrier around the wolf demon, everything Shang’er launched would fail to hit their intended target. Instead, whenever the wolf demon opened its mouth and shot out a breath of air, like sharpened blades, the burst of air would slice through stone and wood projectiles, destroying them.

Even so, that didn’t mean the wolf demon won the battle yet. After all, it would take much more to defeat both Xiao Huo and Shang’er. Moreover, Lin Jin still had Goldy who had yet to join the fray.

When the intelligent Shang’er realized that throwing rocks couldn’t harm the wolf demon, she decided to change her battle strategy.

That intense battle earlier destroyed many trees and among the debris were spear-like sharp tree trunks. Locking onto an opportunity, Shang’er curled her finger, bringing a sharp trunk that was at least ten-feet-long and flung it forward like a drawn-back arrow, aiming straight at the wolf demon.

The dark wind around the wolf demon was too weak to stop the deadly projectile. Successfully breaking through its defensive barrier, the tree trunk continued traveling toward the wolf demon’s abdomen without losing momentum.

The wolf demon let out a strange yell and with a swipe of its claws, it tried to forcefully block the fatal attack. Even so, the truck managed to tear out a piece of flesh around the monster’s waist.

Cringing in pain, a hint of fear appeared in the wolf demon’s initially violent gaze.

Run!

The sly wolf demon clearly recognized Shang’er and was startled by her unexpected growth in strength. Knowing that it couldn’t possibly match up against them, it got ready to escape.

However, the hatred and resentment in its eyes were visible enough that even Lin Jin could tell from afar.

If it were up to Lin Jin, he would advise against pursuing a lone wolf. Who knows what it would do in the final moment of desperation?

Be that as it may, Shang’er had a huge grudge against the wolf demon. If they hadn’t come across Lin Jin, Little Nine would have died long ago. So when Shang’er noticed it was about to escape, she gave chase. Before Lin Jin could even stop her, the two monsters disappeared into the dense forest.

“Xiao Huo, help her!”

Lin Jin was worried that something might happen to Shang’er.

As he was the slowest, Lin Jin could only follow the traces they left behind.

Along the way, Lin Jin found a bloody trail. He reached out to touch the liquid and details of the wolf demon were immediately recorded in the Museum of Deadly Beast.

“Rank 3 dark wind wolf demon. Unable to form blood pact. In the initial stage of transformation. Adept in using Dark Wind.”

“Status: Heavily injured. The four treatment methods include...”

“The three evolution methods include...”

“Can learn Beast Energy Formation and Demonic Transformation.”

It was incredible!

Just as Lin Jin suspected. The wolf demon’s rank was below Shang’er’s. Otherwise, Shang’er and the others wouldn’t have made it out alive in their previous encounter.

This wolf demon had the upper-hand because it knew Dark Wind. Now that Shang’er had learned Object Manipulation, with Xiao Huo’s assistance, victory was already theirs from the start.

Continuing on, Lin Jin only found Xiao Huo and Shang’er after passing over a hill.

The wolf demon was now a spent force. It was impaled by a number of sharp tree trunks, and the forest floor was dyed red by its blood. This was clearly the work of Shang’er.

After having real combat experience, her grasp on Object Manipulation improved noticeably. She could even control three trunks at the same time when attacking her enemy. With no energy left to defend itself, the wolf demon was pinned to the ground by a sharp tree trunk that pierced its heart.

Once the wolf demon died, the black wind around its body dispersed.

This place was equally trashed with fallen trees everywhere and grass patches flipped over. Letting out a disappointed sigh, Lin Jin carefully approached the body of the deceased monster to examine it.

Only at this distance could he sense the wolf demon’s harrowing aura. Even at death, the monster’s humongous size and robust build still made Lin Jin flustered.

When facing an opponent of this caliber, even if it was a friar, without relying on their pet beast, they would have been massacred several times over.

Lin Jin reached out to touch it.

The Museum of Deadly Beasts filled up more data on the wolf demon.

Although he could use DNA samples to appraise a pet beast, Lin Jin was aware that the information he would get from this method was limited. Only by touching the creature itself could the museum provide a full description for him.

Skimming through the new information, Lin Jin found something he could read in extra detail from the wolf demon’s description. It was the skill, Dark Wind.

This renewed Lin Jin’s vigor.

Summoning a thought, a book named ‘Dark Wind Technique’ appeared in the Museum of Deadly Beasts. Lin Jin flipped through it only to realize that it was a manual that taught the Dark Wind spell, equipped with relevant information including all the necessary incantations.

Lin Jin had no idea where the dark wind wolf demon learned this skill but he obtained a tutorial of it after archiving the monster into the museum.

This new discovery excited Lin Jin.

Even though he couldn’t learn the skill himself.

But that was okay. He couldn’t learn it, but Shang’er and the others could.

This skill wasn’t limited to monster-class creatures like Shang’er. Even pet beasts with blood contracts with humans could master it.

Shang’er came over and bowed at Lin Jin apprehensively.

“Master Lin, are you upset at me for taking the life of the enemy?” Shang’er’s question came out of nowhere.

Lin Jin was stunned. Then, he realized she must have seen him hurrying over and how his expression changed when he touched the wolf demon’s corpse. She assumed that he was upset at her for being a cold-blooded murderer.

Lin Jin immediately shook his head and smiled. “This wolf demon had a malicious intention and I saw the resentment and rage in its eyes. If we let it escape, it would undoubtedly come back for revenge. Since that’s the case, getting rid of it was our only choice. No one will blame you for it.”

Upon hearing Lin Jin’s answer, the knot on Shang’er’s forehead loosened up. Then, she said, “Master Lin, this Object Manipulation is truly an extraordinary skill! When you first described it as a ‘universal skill’, I didn’t believe it and assumed you were exaggerating. After using it, I must say, I was wrong!”

“Depending on the way you utilize it, this skill can be used for both offense and defense. Shang’er will never forget Master Lin’s grace for teaching us.”

Lin Jin nodded. He was relieved that Shang’er had a sense of gratitude. Having an ingrate for a student was the worst thing a teacher could ever receive.

However, this reminded Lin Jin that he should be mindful of who he taught in the future. He shouldn’t be casually teaching skills to other pet beasts and monsters. Monsters like Shang’er and her siblings were alright but if he came across a cunning student who returned his kindness with cruelty, he’d die of regret on his deathbed.

Now that the dark wind wolf demon was eliminated, Lin Jin had Xiao Huo drag the creature’s body along, back to the wolf’s cave. He wanted to take a look inside its place of dwelling.

After all, this wolf demon couldn’t possibly have learned such divine teachings on its own, turning itself into a monster. It must have had a miraculous encounter like Shang’er. Having established its territory and terrorizing the area for so long, there should be some interesting goodies it kept tucked away in its cave.

Lin Jin entered the wolf’s cave with Shang’er. It reeked of death inside and many skeletons of beasts, even some humans, could be seen strewn across the floor.

Some people had obviously been unfortunate enough to be captured by the wolf demon as a meal.

From the garments and rucksacks scattered around, they found some taels. Besides that were personal belongings of the wolf demon’s victims.

Proceeding further in, they arrived at a dead end.

This wolf’s den wasn’t huge. To their disappointment, Lin Jin and Shang’er didn’t find anything of worth here.
